Indonesia International Work Camp (IIWC 013)
BILATERAL CAMP
IIWC – IWO Gedong Songo, 5 – 18 January 2004
Place
Gedong Songo Temple park, where we could find more less 9 old Hindus temples around the project, we could also find the beautiful view from the top - Rawa Pening Swamp and the Merbabu mountain. It is a very cold place compare with Semarang city.
WORK
We will work with local government, local people and Indonesian volunteers, one or two doctors, and volunteers from IIWC and IWO. The main work is painting 5 toilets, fence and road from one temple to another. The additional work will deal with environment (planting trees, cutting grasses and picking garbage) and health issue (medical service).
STUDY PART
Please bring some info and material from your country about ecotourism, HIV/AIDS and youth welfare! Anyway, informally we will have country introduction on a cultural night, so don’t forget about cultural information of your country and even about yourself like pictures and anything related to you in which you want to share it with volunteers and people.
FREE TIME
We will welcome Work camp’s participants who will have some free times after or before the camp that can be spend for pleasure at our volunteers house freely. Anyway, volunteers can get wonderful experience by going out to the closest places of interests in Semarang city or going out to other city and town, such as Yogyakarta in the free day during the camp. Please, remember that volunteer should be arrived on time to join any schedule out of the free times and a free day.
ACCOMODATION
The accommodation will be at a motel near by the temple’s complex. You need to share room with other volunteers. You don’t need a sleeping bag unless you have your own idea to climb a mountain near by the temples.
FOOD AND HEALTH
All participants will not join in cooking session as we try to have catering from the losmen. But you need to be washing and cleaning teams every day, which will be in shifts. The team may be decided together.
There are little health problems to be expected such us the sanity of the wet bathrooms and toilets not in American standard as you wish. If you are Vegetarian you should inform the camp leader in time so arrangements can be made. However Vegetarians should not expect several different dishes besides vegetables and eggs, as it is not so common to eat vegetarian in the village. In general, Indonesian food means three (rice meals) a day with some side dishes. Normally, only water is provided (and in our camp you may drink tea and coffee). Alcohol and any other drugs are forbidden and cigarette use should be limited at all times, especially if childr en and youngsters are around.
