Project : Jangbogo is the famous historical person in Korea. He was a general to protect Wando area from pirates around Korea peninsula. Wando County organizes the annual festival to celebrate his achievement in Wando Island.
Work : Volunteer will help the festival as actors in the street march to show international street of 500 years ago. Volunteer will learn Korean traditional musical instrument called Samulnori in the youth center and perform it at the street during the festival days. They will also introduce their own cultures to local youths at the youth center.
Accommodation: In the local youth center
Location: Wando County is in the west-south of Korea peninsular, almost 500km away from Seoul. This county consists of many islands nearby. Festival will be held in main island, Wando Island is bridged from the land.
Remark: Volunteers who are good at the music and performance will be welcome.

Project : The host is the local environment organization in suburb of Seoul. They have promoted to protect the local mountain from the environmental disruption since 1994. They had built up the environment school, “Maengsan Environment School” at the mountain in the environment friendly way for local people and kids. They have regular environment education classes for local people and kids.
Work : Volunteers will build up the small butterfly garden in the school for the ecosystem restoration and education. Volunteers will do manual work to renovate facilitates of school. They also join in the weekend environment education class as a sub-teacher for kids and family in the local park. Volunteers will teach and show examples there such as making a flute and animals in the nature with flower and tree leaves and so on after they learn how to make. They will also experience the traditional nature dying and involve with many local people.
Accommodation : At the school in the mountain and home-stay at Host org members.
Location: Bundang, Sungnam city, Gyeonggido. It is 20km away from Seoul.
Remark: Volunteers who are interested in environment education in local level are welcome.

Project : There will be the biggest ceremony and festival for 2548th birthday of Buddha in Korea. It’s held every year at Buddha’s birthday to cerebrate it in Seoul and other provinces. So, the entire temple prepares this festival and ceremony a lot for months. The main festival will be held on 22nd to 23rd, May in the street, Seoul.
Work : Volunteers will work for the preparation of festival at the temple such as making paper-lanterns, decorating the temple. They will also join in the street performance related with Buddhism during the main festival day so that they will prepare the performance and cooperate with temple youth club beforehand. They will have chances to meet local elderly people by helping their lunch service in social elderly center supported by the temple in Seoul. Participants will have a temple trip to local places after the main festival events.
Accommodation: Buddhism Temple. Only vegetarian food will be served. Vegetarian is very welcome.

Project : The project is organized for the international volunteer who want to stay longer in Korea and get more opportunities to look into Korea with workcamp activities. They will join workcamp projects, IWO-41 Jangbogo, IWO-52 Buddha and help the IWO training workshop for volunteers joining in workcamps of the coming summer. Participants can manage their own free time between IWO-41 and IWO-52, and IWO will try to help them to have home stay at IWO members during that period.
The volunteers will have much chance to experience with the local people and culture at the different places in Korea.
Remark : Volunteers have to be motivated to carry out the each project actively.
Accommodation : In the workcamp project sites.

Project : The host organization is an alternative middle school called ‘Little School’. They have about 35 students from 12years to 15years old. It is located in Jiri Mountain National Park and next to Buddhism temple called Shilsangsa. The school philosophy is based on Buddhism so that they are learning about the value of nature and importance in the life and spirit of Buddhism. They also have unique education system so that they are flexible and open to new ideas and people.
The school would like to provide activities and programs related with intercultural class to the students so that students will experience the different cultures and people through this project with volunteers.
Work : The project is aimed at providing more chances to meet different cultures and people with students and opening their mind to the world. The volunteers will lead the intercultural class such as country introduction, climbing mountains, traveling with students, language class, and club activities after the school for students and monks, and join in various school activities so on. The skills such as dance, singing, theatre, music, teaching language or any related experience and abilities will be very welcome.
The volunteers will experience various traditional Korea cultures and beautiful natures in the school, temple and the local area. They will have chance to learn meditation, traditional instruments and talk with monks about your interest of Buddhism.
Profile of the volunteer :
· Previous volunteer project experiences
· Interest in learning Korean and cultures in local area.
· Ability to teach or explain in English (Basic knowledge to talk with students and teachers)
· Initiative spirit and autonomy
· Any skill to teach such as music, dance and theatre so on for club activities are very welcome
· Flexibility
· Positive mind
** Motivation letter and CV are requested when to apply.
Accommodation : Home-stay at the school
Location : It's 500km away from Seoul and it's very famous with beautiful nature, especially in spring and autumn season in Korea.
Remark : The minimum period is 2 months. The date to start and finish can be changeable by talking with IWO.
