Agricultural Regional Park South Milan
Project: workcamp takes place in the ancient farm of Santa Brera, an old agriculture farm existing since the IX century. It has been restructured short time ago using the materials and the principles of the biological architecture. Now it’s the centre of the farm Terra and Acqua (Earth and water), a co-operative group that develops projects to bring back life and movement to the territory and to the country-side around, creating the right conditions for an harmonic and productive balance between the environment and its inhabitants, respecting the agriculture traditions of the place. From November 1999 it has started the cultivation according to biological and permacultural rules that foresee a particular study about the position of plants in order to optimise the energies for the cultivation and collection.
The farm is situated in the Agricultural Regional Park South Milan. This part of the region, always exploited by the agriculture, has also an important artistic and architectural history like the Abbeys of Chiaravalle, Mirasole and Viboldone, the castles of Tolcinasco and Zibido, other rural villages and the network of big farms.
Work: In Leg17 volunteers, co-ordinated by experts, will take care of a 60.000 mq field, laying biodegradable materials to cover the 12.000 new planted trees to protect them from the cold and the ice.
In Leg18 volunteers will restore some rural houses which will become a permanent agriculture and environment educational centre.
Accommodation: Volunteers will be hosted on the farm in rooms with bathroom.
