USA VFP MTV 08-04 HILLSBORO, WEST VIRGINIA 01 NOV 2004 - 01 APR 2005 (DATES FLEXIBLE) MANUAL/SOCIAL/MTV
The Gesundheit! Institute mission is to inspire people to change their world through relentless, joyful service. The goal is to build a free hospital in rural West Virginia where all healing arts are welcome. All healers, including patients, serve together in community. Currently, there is no hospital or health care services.
Work: includes organic gardening, light construction, landscaping, building maintenance, cooking, cleaning, community activities, and clowning. Volunteers live with staff in the Russian inspired Dacha in private or shared rooms. Emphasis is on healthy interpersonal interactions in accordance with G! vision.
Location: Pocahontas County West Virginia is rural and remote.
Study and Recreation: hiking, snowsports, arts, literature.
Terminal: Greenbrier Valley WV.
DATES FLEXIBLE - ONE MONTH MINIMUM.

USA VFP MTV 02-05 NEVADA - VARIOUS LOCATIONS 25 FEB - 08 APR ENVI/MTV
(YEAR-ROUND PROJECT - POSSIBLE START DATES BELOW!)
P: The Nevada Conservation Corps participates in a wide variety of environmental conservation projects throughout the various landscapes of the state of Nevada. The International Conservation Volunteer Exchange Program strives to combine both incoming International Volunteers and existing American crew members within work crews not only to complete conservation projects, but also to break down cultural barriers and advance ecological awareness on a global scale. Most of the International volunteers participate in trail building, trail maintenance, trail masonry, road decommissioning, and urban lot management projects. The N.C.C. works with various federal organizations including the National Park Service, The Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Forest Service and also a wide range of state organizations as well. Work is often strenuous and in remote landscapes, thus we stress the importance of good physical condition and a good comfort level in the outdoors.
Accommodation: While in the field volunteers will be camping and sleeping in tents (provided by N.C.C.) for 3-4 days at a time. During time off lodging is provided for volunteer in a dormitory/communal style cabin with 16 bunk beds, a shower and a full kitchen. The cabin provides easy access to nearby Reno and Lake Tahoe.
Location: The N.C.C. runs projects throughout the state of Nevada providing an excellent opportunity to experience the many unique landscapes of the state.
Study&Recreation: During work projects volunteers will be given the opportunity to learn about the necessity of the project, its impact on the environment, and local landscapes. During time off the surrounding area of western Nevada and eastern California provide endless recreational possibilities for the outdoor enthusiast, while nearby Reno provides for multiple cultural opportunities.
Termianl: San Francisco International Airport or Reno-Tahoe International Airport.
Required: Good physical condition, a decent grasp of English, and a healthy sense of adventure.
