Proeject Background :
The Killarney Valley is world famous for its natural beauty, part
of which makes up Ireland’s oldest and largest National Park.
The Park encompasses 11,000 hectares of mountains, woodlands and lakes.
It is the only area of the country where red deer have survived since pre-historic
times. The Park also contains the largest area of natural woodlands in Ireland.
Activity :
The woodlands where we work are in the mountain valleys of the park.
We reach them each day by landrover and boat, followed by a hike on foot.
Five days are spent working in the woods, while the evenings
and weekends are spent exploring the National Parks
and experiencing the local hospitality. The work involved can
be hard and messy, sometimes in difficult terrain and bad weather.
However, if you have a taste for adventure, are in good health,
you too can experience our wonderful workcamp.

Accomodation :
Volunteers stay in a wonderfully located National Park hostel
on the shores of Lough Leane. The hostel is close to many features of interest,
such as Muckross House and gardens, Torc waterfall and Muckross Abbey.
At the weekends, we usually take a boat trip, through the Killarney Valley
and walk back through the red deer range.

Message from Previous camper at KNP workcamp :
- Roelof Jan Koops (Arnhem)
Yes, It was really great. Especially because the wether was on our side
and because all the friendly people I met during my stay in Killarney.
I still have some contact with people I met. You will learn not only things
of nature but also other cultures. Just do it!!!

- Maaike Kruyt (Groningen, Netherlands)
Been in Killarney in 1998 for two weeks;loved the midges,
the Guinness, the sandwiches, the smelly people. I still can't see
a rhododendron without thinking of Ireland..... Cut them all!!!!

- Eoin McGrath (Galway+Dublin/Oirland)
I worked our arses off during the day, lived the high life at night.
It was like The Beach, except in a forest full of your friendly neighbourhood midges.

- Maurizio Di Matteo (Lanciano, Italy)
I enjoyed it very much and I'd like to repeat this beautiful experience!!!
I stayed in Killarney camp for 2 weeks in 1999... Good luck to future workcampers!
