Zimbabwe Workcamps Association (ZWA)
Special Project: 2 Weeks Project and 1 week Seminar (International Exchange)
Theme : Peace, Reconciliation and Reconstruction
Dates: 28th July - 15th August 2003
Place: Serengeti Five Training Centre (Rusape 180km east of Harare)
Zimbabwe Workcamps Association is a Youth Volunteer Organisation founded in
1993 for the purpose of promoting community development through workcamps.
We organise both national, regional and international youth exchange programmes
in collaboration with our partner organisation worldwide.
This year, the United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural Organisation
(UNESCO) together withthe Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary
Service (CCIVS) will support the launch of the Workcamp and Seminar that will
focus on Peace, Reconciliation and Reconstruction in Zimbabwe.
This is a small way in which we know would facilitate togetherness and solidarity
among the people of the world in trying to resolve the crisis in Zimbabwe. The
responsible Ministry of Youth Development,Gender ,Culture and Employment
Creation of Zimbabwe is in total support of such an initiative and have promised to
assist in the official launch of the activity.
Programme:
International Workcamp: Workcamp participants from all over the world will assist
the local community in the renovation and refurbishment of a local primary school,
work on a village ecological or environmental project and finally if necessary assist
in the distribution of relief food material to those hard hit by the economic and
political situation in the country.
Villagers in that communal area had already embarked onto such programmes
before and that is the main reason why we think it is necessary for us volunteers
to support such peace initiatives. Zimbabwe Workcamps Association has
conducted and organised more than five community development projects with the
local people in the surrounding villages. This is a very calm area of Zimbabwe
whereby the villagers, their tribal chiefs and their local authorities have embraced
the non-violence policy for the sake of progress.
Seminar: The seminar will be conducted in another location probably in Harare
where participants will discuss and debate on different topics linked to conflict
resolution. We have invited a wide range of facilitators from religious organisations,
human rights, the UN and other local civic groups.
Zimbabwe Workcamps Association would like to invite all partner organisations to this special
Workcamp / Seminar Programme. The volunteers will contribute US$250 towards their simple
board, lodge & transport costs for the duration.
