LUN 42 Finocchio 01/07-15/07 15 vols
Borgata Finocchio is at the outskirts of Roma, about 30 kms away. Even if it is formally part of the Municipality of Roma, it represents a world quite separate from the town. Most of the people who live in this place work in town: as a result the district turns out to be a “dormitory” for the most of the residents who mainly belongs to the working class. Lunaria organizes the camp in together with the “cooperativa Santi Pietro e Paolo” which runs a youth club called “Il Muretto”: this organisation is sponsored by the Municipality that look after young people in the area setting up courses and animation activities.
Some of the action is now focused in a particular area of the district named “Collina della Pace”. Here, a huge building was constructed: many interests linked to “mafia” activities were discovered so this building (indeed never completed) will be now dismantled and the area turned into a park and given back to the inhabitants. Volunteers will learn about this and probably will perform some of the animation activities right in this place. The work will have two main directions. Volunteers will be involved in animation activities together with the staff of the youth club “Il Muretto”. It will be very helpful if you can play an instrument or you can do some juggling or you have other artistic skills to perform. So this part will also depend on what you can do. The other part of the work will see the group of volunteers participating to several excursions with the local youngsters. During the camp a small scale festival is planned to animate the district involving cinema and music, so you will be involved in this activity as well.
Accommodation: in a school with bathrooms, showers and a kitchen.
