U06- VILLEPAIL - 9/7-30/7 - ENVI - 12 - Laval (Pays de Loire)
The Project: The Egoutelles peat bog is located in the commune of Villepail, in the Mayenne department. The community of Villaines-La-Juhel and “Mayenne Nature Environnement”, a Laval-based organization for environmental protection, have asked Etudes et Chantiers to organize a workcamp on the peat bog in 2004. Thanks to the work done by the volunteers, this natural area was cleared from overrunning trees and bushes and its ecological interest was saved. Once again this year, the community wishes to mobilize volunteers to work on the site and build a wooden path so that tours and educational activities can take place without destroying the peat bog. You will have the opportunity to meet a group of local teenagers who will show you around and help you with the work.
Work: Participants in a social integration project will put up the base of the wooden path. Volunteers will help them with the base and take care of the wooden flooring. The work might be a little repetitive and will sometimes require meticulousness.
More info: Villepail is a small rural village with little opportunities for European and international exchanges. However, the location is worth the trip! The quiet, green hills are perfect for walking. Near Villepail, you will find the highest mountain in Western France, the Mont des Avalloirs (417 meters high), on the ledge of Pail, where the view is amazing.
The department is named after the river Mayenne – a large and winding river whose wild banks are perfect for adventure. In the ancient Roman city of Jublains - six miles away from the town of Mayenne - you can visit beautiful remains of temples, thermal baths, theatres and fortresses.
