LOCAL ORGANIZATION : Centre de formation professionnel de Neufchâtel
Get involved in an high profile horticultural project in Neufchâtel, a quarter of Québec City! Live in one of the oldest North American city, the only one with fortifications and find yourself less than 15 km from the old quarter of Québec City!
The workcamp takes place on the site of the Professional Formation Centre of Neufchâtel (CFPN). This centre was built in 1998 and brings together 600 students. studying in 15 formation programs, among them, accounting, secretarial work, surveying, wood working, shoemaking and machining. The Centre takes part in a huge recreational and touristic development project along with the City of Québec and the National Capital Commission that will be realised in the Chauveau Park, on the banks of the Saint-Charles river, in the front of the CFPN. It is the creation of a thematic park about the city of Québec’s history! So, the laying out of footpaths and of resting areas will allow the population and the student to learn more about Neufchâtel and Québec’s history. The site will be linked to the cycling path and a commemorative monument will be erected to the memory of the first Prime Minister of the Province of Québec, Pierre-Joseph-Olivier Chauveau. Nature and history are joined together in this unique project!
WORK
The project consists in doing the horticultural lay out and the landscaping of the yard of the Centre de formation professionnel, located in front of the Chauveau Park. You will get the opportunity to learn about landscaping with the help of a landscape architect of the centre.
· To put the soil for the grass and some plantation;
· To plant flowers, shrubs and trees;
· To lay some peat;
· To prepare the surfaces that will be paved;
· To do some finishing work on stone walls;
· To clean up the site for its official opening.
ACCOMMODATION : To be confirmed.
LOCATION : Neufchâtel is located in Quebec City, 250 km East of Montréal.
TERMINAL : Montreal-Trudeau Airport
