IBG36b Walheim 14.08. – 27.08. ARCH 3 volunteers
The project will be organised in cooperation with the authorities for archaeology of Baden-Wuerttemberg and the local village council of Walheim. Walheim is situated approx. 40km north of Stuttgart in the valley of the river Neckar, beautifully surrounded by vineyards. The task of the workcamp will be an archaeological excavation of a roman site. Walheim was an important trading place in Roman times in the first two centuries a.c.. Two different Roman forts were settled here. Together with professional archaeologists you will conserve this important historical monument. Please be aware that the project requires a high motivation and very precise work.
The idea behind setting up an international work camp in Walheim is to:
·Offer you the possibility of collaborating on a major archaeological
research programme of a Roman site.
·Obtain direct experience with some of the main archaeological
field procedures and techniques.
·The programme will include teaching and training activities (an approach to archaeological
techniques and materials and their basic processing: talks on Walheim, its historical
and cultural context).
·Get in direct contact with the local population of Walheim.
Accommodation: will be in the local youth club, built in 2002 with the support of an international workcamp.
Requirements for participation: only for volunteers studying archaeology, history, ethnology or any other related field or have any other useful experience for the project. Please send a prove for this with your application.
Volunteers will work together with 7 international volunteers who started end of July.
