LOCAL ORGANIZATION : Musée amérindien de Mashteuiatsh Welcome in the vast region of
the Lac Saint-Jean on the banks of the Pekuakami (Saint-John Lake) in
Mashteuiatsh (Pointe-Bleue). This native community is located 520 km North-East of
Montreal, near the Saint-John Lake, a region well know for the joy in life of its inhabitants
and its.. blueberries! We are inviting you to immerse yourself in the Ilnu community universe.
Indeed, the Musée amérindien de Mashteuiatsh (The Native Museum of Mashteuiatsh),
whose mission is to preserve the Ilnu cultural heritage, offers animation, exhibitions,
research, diffusion, interpretation and education activities.
Since 2002, the Mashteuiatsh community have made tourism a priority.
The museum being one of the major attraction, it wishes to update its exhibitions
and to develop news activities to bring more visitors.
This year’s priority is the "NUTSHIMATSH, in the forest a living exhibition " project.
This project consists in the laying or of a living collection of plants around
the museum for interpretation, educational and purpose. It also contributes
to the setting-off of a fundamental Ilnu heritage element, the indigenous flora.
WORK
The project consists the laying out of the ground in front of the museum and of a thematic
interpretation site at the back. Moreover, you will get the chance to discover the native culture
of the large Saint-John Lake region.
• To identify and pick-up indigenous plants;
• To prepare the soil and put in plants;
• To build benches made of wooden wreck;
• To lay cobblestones and stone low-walls;
• To lay mulch and install decorative stones.
ACCOMMODATION : In chalets of a small estate in Mashteuiatsh.
LOCATION : Mashteuiatsh is located 520 km North-east of Montréal
and 300 km North of Québec City.
TERMINAL : Montreal-Trudeau Airport
