Project
It has become a good tradition for EstYES to organize international workcamps in co-operation with Marjamaa Community, which is the largest community of Estonia. It lies on the half way between Tallinn and Parnu, and it is known for its rich historical and cultural heritage: ancient settlement in Varbola, XIII century church in Marjamaa, chapel in Haimre, numerous German manor houses of XVIII-XIX centuries, etc. Local authorities see in the international camps an important tool for local development - not only in terms of work done by volunteers but mainly for introduction multicultural dimension to the population of small places in the country. This year’s second camp (first already took place in august) will also take place in Marjamaa, the center of the community. The task of the camp is to assist local authorities’ maintenance plans aimed to make Marjamaa Community not only the largest but the most beautiful in Estonia.
Work:
Cleaning and tiding up, cutting bushes, various odd jobs mostly outside. The work will take place in Marjamaa village, but also around the community - in Sipa and Varbola village.
Accommodation:
Volunteers will live approximately 2 kilometers from the center in a sport center building.
All volunteers will sleep in the same room on blank beds. Sheets, pillows, blankets are provided. Toilets, showers are available. It will be possible to go to sauna. Volunteers will be eating in the school canteen, which is situated in the center, which means that volunteers have to walk there. Kitchen staff will prepare meals. Possibilities to make own food are very limited.
Location
Märjamaa is a village with about 4 000 inhabitants on the half way between Tallinn and Pärnu. Distance from Marjamaa to Tallinn is 70km. Being an administrative center of community Märjamaa has shops, department store, culture house, cinema, several pubs, night disco club, etc. Larger city nearby is Rapla (25km), an administrative center of County, with a population of about 10 000 people.
