KVDA 10.1 Mwireri Primary School
Location Of Work Camp 10.1
At Mwireri Primary School, located 50km off Nairobi
-Thika road in Juja constituency in Thika district,
central province. Board Thika bound "matatu", alight
at Kalimoni center and take another matatu and alight
at Juja farm. Mwireri Primary School is situated 3 Kms
from this center.


The Host Community
The local people are Kikuyu speaking, the single most
largest community in Kenya. The community is liberal
and permissive thanks to the profound influence of
Christianity and modernization but equally prides in
cultural heritage of Agikuyu with legendary
involvement in the "MAU MAU" freedom struggle that saw
Kenya liberated from the claws of the British colonial
rule. With the mindset of the new order perpetuated by
the affinity towards self -determination, this is a
community that is enterprising with the vast majority
involved in income generating Projects of diverse
nature.


Project Activities
Volunteers will work together with the host community
in construction of classrooms and
Planting of shed trees.
They will also conduct home visits, interact with
community members, visit self help projects and have
an opportunity to learn and teach, hold discussions on
the burning issues and build an environment for cross
cultural exchange and peace building.



Other activities that include games, home visits,
church services, cultural and traditional rites of
passage for community members, group excursions, face
to face discussions with the community members on
North - South relations and other development related
community initiatives, will provide an intercultural
forum to expose participants to challenges of
development.


Each and every nationality represented at the work
camp will have one cultural day where respective
volunteers will be expected to share with others a
brief history of the country, food culture and other
spectacular cultural aspects.
KVDA encourages open-mindedness and urges all to be
part of the learning process.
