Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:
Every year, Special Olympics Belgium organises the National Games. In 2026, the Games will be held in Hautes-Fagnes. More than 3,000 athletes, accompanied by 1,200 coaches, are taking part in the Games in around twenty sports disciplines.
Changing the lives of people with intellectual disabilities through sport and promoting their social inclusion. This has been the mission of Special Olympics since it was founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver in the United States. And it works! Since then, Special Olympics has become an international movement active in 193 countries, with more than 5.5 million athletes with a mental disability taking part in adapted sports training and Olympic-type sports competitions, as well as participating in the Healthy Athletes Programme and much more.
Special Olympics Belgium was founded in 1979 and is officially recognized by the Belgian Olympic and Interfederal Committee. It organises National Games every year (alternatively in Flanders, Brussels and Wallonia) and send delegations of Belgian athletes to the Winter and Summer Special Olympics World Games. These competitions are open to any athlete with intellectual disability who regularly practise a sport at his/her own level. More than just a physical and sport training, these activities enhance the social development of the athletes.
The Opening Ceremony (with Torch Run) and Games will take place from 14th to 16th of May 2026.

The school “l’Ecole de la Providence” is an alternative pedagogy school – based on the Steiner-Waldorf pedagogy – that welcomes children from preschool to primary school. Here, there is no place for competition or grades; the teaching offered is based on the principles of freedom, trust, and enthusiasm, focuses on each child as an individual, and aims to enable them to develop their full potential.
The school's project is led by its parents' association, organized as a non-profit organization called "l’Enfance de l'Art" (Childhood of Art); the parents are indeed deeply involved in the school's daily life.
More information: https://ecoledelaprovidence.be/
Description of work:
The parents' association "l'Enfance de l'Art" from the school “l’Ecole de la Providence” in Templeuve is appealing to international volunteers to help renovate the school buildings. The school is housed in the former premises of a convent and its boarding school. From an international workcamp to another, the buildings and outdoor spaces are being refurbished to create an increasingly welcoming environment that supports the school's educational mission.
The volunteers will renovate a room intended to become a woodworking workshop. To do this, they will learn about lime plastering, which they will use to insulate the room's interior walls.
They will also carry out dismantling and demolition work in the building that will house the kindergarten in the future.
Finally, they may be asked to perform other small renovation and improvement tasks in the classrooms and outdoors.
The parents also want to introduce the volunteers to their community of parents involved in their children's school. They will supervise the volunteers in their tasks (some of them are construction professionals). They will also share lunch with the volunteers. So, get-togethers, sharing, and good cheer are on the agenda!

The Esperanzah! festival is founded on strong values and principles of good conduct. They guide every aspect of the event.
Our aim has always been to celebrate artistic and cultural diversity while working towards a positive social, political and environmental impact. Social inequality and exclusion, poverty, discrimination and environmental damage are issues that we fight against in every choice we make.
Through collective spaces for reflection and exchange, we explore new perspectives on society. We encourage a society that is more respectful of the environment, more supportive, fairer, feminist, anti-capitalist, inclusive and anti-racist.
We want our values to be embraced by everyone involved, whether they are part of the organising team, festival-goers, artists, external service providers or volunteers.

Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:
GRIMM (standing for: Groupe d’Intérêt pour le Milieu Marchois – or: interest group for the environment of Marche, in English), is a local non-profit organization whose goal is to promote and preserve the living environment of the inhabitants of the municipality of Marche-en-Famenne by drawing inspiration from the principles of sustainable development. It works in collaboration with the municipality’s environmental department.
For example, it takes care of securing sections of road for amphibians to cross during their annual migration. Each year, GRIMM also hosts a group of international volunteers to carry out small public utility improvements together (for example: building benches and picnic tables, footbridges, etc. on a local promenade) and renovating those from previous years.
Description of work:
This year, the volunteers will build facilities for cyclists and cycle tourists passing through the town of Marche-en-Famenne. They will build two wooden shelters and three picnic tables, along the cycle path near the cultural center. They will also set up several bicycle racks.
The volunteers will also carry out the maintenance of a diversion channel near a village in the municipality. This channel collects runoff water, thus preventing flooding of houses and land below. However, it is currently clogged with branches and dead leaves and is therefore no longer functioning properly.
If you work quickly, other small outdoor manual tasks will be planned.
Volunteers will work in several teams, each lead by one member of GRIMM.
If you enjoy working with wood, screws, and tools, this is the project for you!
Marche-en-Famenne
Description of location and leisure:
Marche-en-Famenne is a small town in the countryside located in the south of the country. You can find everything there: schools, shops, industries, services... The town is surrounded by several industrial estates, but also by woods, fields and small villages where the pace of life remains rural. Liège, Namur and Luxembourg are easily accessible by train in about an hour, Brussels in two. It is also a good base camp to discover the natural heritage of the Ardenne region and to practice outdoor activities.
But participating to the “GRIMM workcamp” also means experiencing traditions that are maintained year after year: your stay will be punctuated by a welcome BBQ on the first day, a farewell BBQ on the last day, and, above all, your participation in the local festivities on August 15th. On August 15, Marche-en-Famenne indeed takes a leap back a century for a large “1900 market”, with old trades, old games, crafts and birds.
