La mairie de Rochefort-en-Yvelines et la Société Historique s'allient pour accueillir des bénévoles internationaux·ales chaque année. Les bénévoles de l'association sont toujours prêt·e·s à nous faire visiter les lieux emblématiques de la commune et à venir donner un coup de main sur le chantier !

The Rochefort-en-Yvelines town hall and the Historical Society join forces to host international volunteers every year. The association's volunteers are always ready to give us a tour of the village's iconic sites and lend a hand on the worksite!

Description of work:
Le château de Rochefort-en-Yvelines, dit "le château Gui Le Rouge", est inscrit aux monuments historiques depuis 1931. Ce site fascinant avec une vue imprenable sur les environs fut une forteresse stratégique au carrefour des routes commerciales. Depuis quatre ans, des bénévoles du monde entier redonnent vie à ce lieu en dégageant les ruines et en ouvrant de nouveaux chemins d'accès. Grâce à eux·elles, le village et son église du XIIe siècle retrouvent une vue imprenable.
L’année dernière déjà, plusieurs éléments historiques prometteurs ont été mis au jour lors des chantiers bénévoles de dévégétalisation qui ont permis de dégager les ruines du chateau de Gui Le Rouge. L’étude des anciennes excavations et la géophysique du site ont depuis révélé de nouvelles informations. Tu participeras aux premières fouilles archéologiques et contribueras à faire avancer la recherche. Encadré·e par un professionnel passionné, tu rejoindras l’équipe pour explorer le château et mettre au jour les traces du passé cachées sous les gravats modernes. Peu à peu, le château nous révélera ses secrets… et tu feras partie de cette découverte collective. Une expérience immersive correspondant à la première étape d’un diagnostic archéologique avant d’éventuelles fouilles professionnelles. Aucune compétence requise : seulement ta motivation, et ton envie de vivre une aventure humaine et scientifique unique !

The Rochefort-en-Yvelines castle, known as "Château Gui Le Rouge", has been listed as a historic monument since 1931. This fascinating site was a strategic fortress at the crossroads of trade routes. For the past four years, volunteers from around the world have been bringing this place back to life by clearing the ruins and opening new access paths. Thanks to them, the village and its 12th-century church have regained an unforgettable view.
Last year, several promising historical elements were already uncovered during volunteer vegetation-clearing workcamps, which made it possible to reveal the ruins of Gui Le Rouge Castle. The study of former excavations and the site’s geophysical surveys have since brought new information to light. You will take part in the first archaeological excavations and contribute to advancing the research. Supervised by a passionate professional, you will join the team to explore the castle and uncover traces of the past hidden beneath modern rubble. Little by little, the castle will reveal its secrets… and you will be part of this collective discovery. An immersive experience that will be the first stage of an archaeological assessment prior to possible professional excavations. No skills required: just your motivation and your desire to live a unique human and scientific adventure!

Rochefort-en-Yvelines est un charmant village médiéval à seulement 30 minutes de Paris. Depuis six ans, il accueille des chantiers internationaux bénévoles dans un cadre rural préservé. Aux alentours, de nombreux sites naturels et culturels sont à découvrir : le château médiéval de Dourdan, la maison Elsa Triolet-Aragon, la forêt de Rambouillet ou encore l’abbaye des Vaux de Cernay, sans oublier la ville de Paris !

Welcome to Rochefort-en-Yvelines, a charming medieval village just 30 minutes from Paris! For the past five years, it has hosted international volunteer workcamps in a preserved rural setting. Around the area, there are many natural and cultural sites to discover: the medieval castle of Dourdan, the Elsa Triolet-Aragon house, the Rambouillet forest, the Vaux de Cernay Abbey, and of course, the city of Paris!

Tu seras hébergé·e à la Salle des Fêtes de la commune, au sein d'une petite base de loisirs, située à une dizaine de minutes à pied du lieu de chantier. Tu pourras profiter d'un espace extérieur avec barbecue et terrain de jeux (volley, basket, foot). Tu pourras dormir à l'intérieur de la salle ou en tentes individuelles en extérieur.
Au-delà des temps de chantier, les bénévoles participent ensemble à l’organisation de la vie collective. Souvent réparti·e·s en équipes, ils·elles élaborent les menus, participent aux courses, préparent les repas et s’assurent de la propreté des espaces communs. Véritable acteur·ice de ton expérience, tu participeras aussi à la prise de décisions concernant les activités collectives et l’organisation du quotidien !
Dans une optique de réduction de l’impact environnemental de nos chantiers, nous privilégions des menus végétariens, qui répondent à tous les besoins nutritionnels des participant·e·s.
Le groupe sera constitué de bénévoles français·e·s et internationaux·ales. Afin d’assurer l’intégration de tout le monde, nous comptons sur toi pour parler anglais autant que possible !

You will be accommodated at the village hall, within a small leisure area, located about ten minutes on foot from the worksite. You can enjoy an outdoor space with a barbecue and sports fields (volleyball, basketball, football). You can sleep either inside the hall or in individual tents.
Beyond working hours, volunteers come together to organise daily life on the camp. Often divided into teams, they plan menus, help with the shopping, prepare meals, and ensure the cleanliness of shared spaces. Fully involved in shaping your experience, you will also take part in decision-making regarding group activities and daily organisation!
In order to reduce the environmental impact of our projects, we prioritise vegetarian menus, which meet all the nutrional needs of participants.
There will be French volunteers on the workcamp. Some of them might not speak English. This can be an opportunity for everyone to develop new language skills and innovatove ways of communicating!

Jaulny Castle is a wonderful little medieval castle from the 14th century: perched on impressive ramparts, it still stands! For more than a year, its owner and dozens of village volunteers have been working to restore it. The objective is to bring the castle to life, and to open it to as many people as possible: visitors, school groups, cultural and festive events...
This year, the reception of an international construction site will be a great first for the castle: we are counting on you!

For this first workcamp on the castle, we invite you to discover ancient masonry techniques. The castle hasn’t been restored in years and needs a new look! Between the old walls and the façade, the castle needs you!
The tasks for you and the group of volunteers are multiple: remove the vegetation that damages the walls, remove an old mortar coating on the facade of the communal oven and repoint it with lime, rebuild some parts of the wall... No worries, you don’t need technical knowledge to join this camp! If you don't know much about masonry, this will be an opportunity to learn: a professional heritage mason will accompany you throughout the workcamp!

Jaulny Castle is located in the heart of a small Lorraine village of 200 inhabitants, who will be delighted to welcome you and introduce you to the region. Only a few kilometers away is the Lac de Madine, where swimming, water sports and outdoor sports are possible all summer long. If you like city tourism, you can discover Pont-à-Mousson, Nancy, and Metz, three cities you absolutely must visit! Every year, at the end of July, an international hot air balloon festival is organized in Chambley, 15 km from Jaulny: the sky is filled with balloons, it's a breathtaking spectacle! Finally, for history buffs, the region was strongly marked by the two world wars. There are many monuments, historical sites, museums...

By participating to this workcamp you are helping to create safe and responsible spaces (UN SDG 11 - Sustainable cities and communities) and help preserve and restore land ecosystems (SDG 15 Life on Land).

You will be accommodated directly in the castle, in a real historical setting! A large dormitory and a bathroom have been set up in the castle and will be reserved for you. You will also have access to a (modern) kitchen and different living areas, inside and outside the castle.
The volunteers, who will be actors and actresses of their stay, will each participate in the daily tasks (shopping, cooking, storage, and cleaning ...), the organization of the rotation will be done with the camp leaders team, which is there to ensure the smooth running, the objective is to gain autonomy and that everyone acts individually to allow a good collective functioning!
Altogether, you will think about how to work, eat, have fun, get around, visit the region in the most respectful way for the environment and for each other."

The colline de Sion - or colline de Sion-Vaudémont - is a hill located in the Saintois land in the south of the Meurthe-et-Moselle French department, in the Grand Est region. It is 540m high, making it the highest spot of the Moselle slopes! Thanks to its history, its pilgrims and its topography it is a major place of tourism in Meurthe-et-Moselle.

Our construction plan is to restore an old wall walk around the ramparts of the Vaudémont village. This path is especially used by hikers and numerous tourists who visite this wonderful site.

The colline de Sion-Vaudémont is one of the rare European sites that counts thousands of years of civilisations. Sion has been populated for at least 4 thousand years, which means way before the creation of the oldest cities of France! Sion is 25 minutes away from Nancy, the city of the Duc Stanislas and his mythical Place Stanislas, one of the 5 most beautiful squares of the world. It is also 2 hours away from Paris by high-speed train. During our free time, we will be able to discover some beautiful vineyards.
