Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:

Archaeology but not only ! In the midst of a forest, coils a small stream down a
steep valley that stretches from the Segala plateau to the Tarn river. A discreet but most
prominent ensemble of medieval ruins is set there. On the top of a hill, a thirteenth century
dungeon is encircled by the ruins of excavated houses. A hundred and twenty feet further
down, a water mill, a bread oven and a barn surround a bridge that crosses the stream.
The buildings composing this hamlet have, since the end of the medieval ages, slowly
fallen down to an amazing ensemble of ruins. It offers fascinating grounds of social and
historical study for archaeologists. You will work alongside local volunteers and the
association « La Bastide des Vassals ».

Description of work:

You will work on tasks such as pre-archaeology (clear the stones and vegetation),
and to maintain the hiking paths that bring to the site. You will be accompanied by a
passionate technical leader you will have the opportunity to discover the history of the
Hamlet and how to preserve it.

Description of location and leisure:

Location : Saint Gégoire, 20km est of Albi and 80km north-est of Toulouse
Leisure activities : During your free time you will have the opportunity to discover not only
the natural environment by accessible walking trails in the surrounding forest, but also the
architectural and cultural heritage of the region. You will be able to visit the surrounding
cities such as Albi. During the hottest afternoons, you can relax by the stream next to the
work-site or discover local activities such as « pétanque ». And, you will also cooperate
with local associations to organise events (festive, cultural, social,..), therefore, multiplying
the possibilities of local encounters.

Description of accomodation and food:

You will sleep in tents on the local football field in Saint
Gégoire, with access to an outdoor kitchen and a sanitary block.
