BACKGROUND:The workcamp is organized by YAP– Youth Action for Peace with ARTETECA Molise; “ARTETECA
Molise” is a cultural association that dedicates its activitiesto the rediscovery and enhancement of the tangible and
intangible heritage of Molise region. Guardiaregia is a small mountain town in the province of Campobasso in Molise
region. The settlement exists since ancient Roman times. Nowadays it represents a typical mountain town with few
inhabitants in winter, a bit more in summer, that struggles to preserve its identity and traditions. Even being part of WWF
oasis and owning a huge natural and cultural heritage it is still not well-known for tourists. After the success of the first
international workcamp organized together with “ARTETECA Molise” association in 2019, this year the volunteers will go
ahead with exploration of this beautiful place, its history, culture and natural landscape.
WORK:Since ancient times, Guardiaregia has been a place of transit and control of the territory. In the surroundings
there are still ruins of walls, artistic artefacts, sites of historical value, which however are often hidden in the woods,
abandoned, simply forgotten or little known. Under the technical supervision of the staff of Arteteca Molise trained by
professors and researchers from the University of Molise and in collaboration with the Municipality of Guardiaregia,
international volunteers will walk through the woods, hills and paths of Guardiaregia and 1. recover forgotten heritage
and rediscover sites of historical and artistic value; 2. clean up the spontaneous vegetation where possible; 3. make
photos, drawings and maps of these places. The aim of the project is to provide the University of Molise, through
Arteteca Molise, with useful material for a future drafting of a "map" of the cultural and historical sites of Guardiaregia that can be used by university researchers for more in-depth studies on the heritage of Guardiaregia.
Guardiaregia is a small mountain town of 748 inhabitants in the Province of Campobasso, Molise, southern
Italy. In ancient times it was a strongpoint of the Samnites and Romans. The current settlement dates from the medieval
Lombard Duchy of Benevento, when a castle was built here to protect Campochiaro. In 1805 the town was hit with a
sizable earthquake that destroyed the castle. During the Second World War there was a vast number of immigrants to
Canada and the United States. Since 1996 the town together with the neighbour Campochiaro made up the natural
oasis of WWF “Riserva Regionale Guardiaregia Campochiaro” with its caves, canyons and waterfalls that now isclose to
become Matese National Park. Beautiful walkways and viewpoints weave up, down and along the hillsides where you
might be lucky enough to spot some of the local wildlife. In their free time the volunteers can go hiking at archaeological
sites and / or natural sites, such as chestnut woods, natural caves and mountain pathways.
TERMINAL:Naples airport. There is direct bus from Naples (Piazza Garibaldi) from Monday to Saturday at 16:15, arrival
in Guardiaregia at 18:50. More specific info will be provided in the infosheet.
Accommodation in shared double tents. Please note that the tents are provided but you must bring
your own sleeping bag (warm and thick). The volunteers will have access to the toilets, showers and kitchen in the
adjoining building. The volunteers will share the different collective tasks such as cooking and cleaning.

BACKGROUND: Since 1992, the Social Centre “Magazzino 47” organizes a summer festival of Radio Onda d’Urto in Brescia. The Festival aims to finance the independent radio station RADIO ONDA D’URTO and its activities. The radio station was established in the 70’s, and since then provides social, political and cultural information out of the mainstream media. The aim of the workcamp is to support an independent voice and, through it, the freedom of speech.
WORK: International volunteers will make up a bigger team of volunteers helping run the festival and dismantle the festival area. During the festival the volunteers will help maintaining site infrastructure e.g. cleaning the area and waste sorting (for later recycling), helping at food stands and restaurants to prepare, sell and serve the food, clean the kitchen and other spaces, arrange the area for the performances, etc. Volunteers will clear up and take down the site at the end of the festival. During the take down phase (2 working days) work usually begins at 9am with a short meeting to discuss the tasks for the day, and finish around 5 pm, with lunch and regular breaks. However the volunteers may be asked to do other jobs according to the festival needs. The international volunteers will work for around 7/8 hours per day. The work will be done in pairs or small groups in different shifts (to be arranged together with the campleader) in the morning, afternoon and mostly late in the evening. During the free time the volunteers will have the opportunity to join concerts, performances, DJ-sets, etc. in the festival area. Please note that flexibility and adaptability are required, and there might be some physically demanding work from time to time (under the sun or rain sometimes). Be ready to work in a big team of national volunteers and hopefully become wonderful members of this great family! International volunteers will have 2 free days, to be arranged with the festival organizers.
The festival takes place in Brescia, a city in Lombardy region in the north of Italy. Brescia is a city in the region of Lombardy in northern Italy. It is situated at the foot of the Alps, a few kilometres from the lakes Garda and Iseo. The monumental archaeological area of the Roman forum and the monastic complex of San Salvatore-Santa Giulia have become a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of a group of seven inscribed as Longobards in Italy, Places of Power.
TERMINAL: Brescia railway station. Milan is the nearest airport. Please consider Milano-Orio al Serio Airport where several low cost options are available.
Volunteers will be hosted in a local social centre, called “Magazzino 47”, a self-managed place for youth where social, cultural, and political activities are organized. For the whole duration of the festival the social centre is closed for visitors and reserved for the accommodation of the volunteers. There are several toilets and a shower. The accommodation is not well-connected with the festival area by public transport so different pick up shifts will be arranged with the organisers to go to work and to come back to the accommodation. Sleeping bag, sleeping mat, goodwill and open-mindedness are required.
