At the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018, promote intercultural appreciation and learning opportunities for participants (non-formal education processes and exchange experiences and knowledge of sociocultural realities), international added value in the project and the existence of the work component community and / or collective in a specific approach, more than just tourist, to one of the cultural sites in Portugal among the 15 registered in UNESCO, namely in the Historic Center of Porto, which is the area of excellence par excellence of the MEDesTU, having as office the House of Associations, which is located in the central parish of the Cathedral.

This workcamp will have 3 types of activities, which are:

1. Valuing our heritage through the "Moorish" (Arab, Neo-Arab and Islamic) historical legacy in Oporto, sensitizing national and international volunteers, and the local community in general to the subject. The volunteers will have in the first session some introduction about the Moorish heritage in Porto and the context to the project, in this way they will be more aware to the theme.

2. Improvement of the tourism itinerary of the Moorish legacy in Porto in the form of peddy-paper previously built by MEDesTU for Portuguese and foreigners, through various activities: intercultural sharing of the involved volunteers, who will have a moment in which they will be the guides themselves and may share legends and stories related to their own origins related to the "Moorish" historical legacy; and track record on geocashing platforms and free walking tours.The volunteers will search for histories, legends, about the moors in Porto, something creative that we can implement in our tour. The will also build a guide map for give to the tourists, not just in paper but also interactive. They will also build geocaching points for the project itself.

3. Favoring the deepened and more enlightened knowledge of our History, deconstructing prejudices and opening intercultural horizons and a culture of peace in all the participants, through moments of intercultural sharing.

How to reach to...?
The best way of reaching the center is by metro. Metro from Porto Airport starts going from 5:58 am and goes with a half an hour frequency. The metro ticket for one ride costs 2.95? since you will pay the 2,35? Z5 electronic ticket + the 0.60? blue card, which is reusable, and you keep charging it with electronic tickets as many times as you want.

Take the metro from the airport (Purple line - E) direction Estádio do Dragão and get out at the last station, and then change the metro for the one going to “Fânzeres”, from Estadio do Dragão till Nassoni you just have 1 station, that is:Contumil and then Nassoni, get out in this metro station and someone from the organization will be waiting for you.

If you travel to Porto through the Lisbon airport, you can reach Porto by train or by bus.

If you come by bus, you want to leave the Lisbon airport by Metro (subway) and exit at the Jardim Zoológico station where you will find the bus terminal connection. Buses pretty much run in the Lisbon-Porto direction every hour, with an approximate cost of ?20 (one direction). If you plan to take the train, you can catch it at the Oriente train station and you can check prices and schedules here https://www.cp.pt/passageiros/en. It should be cheaper and more reliable to take the bus trip, as it gives you more options per day, but it’s a matter of finding what’s best for your particular travel scenario.

By train from Lisbon:

If you are coming by train you must get out in Estação de Campanhã in Porto and then take the metro, that is inside of station in the left side. You must by the ticktet z2 in the metro machines, you will pay for one trip 1,20? + 0,60? (for the card). You must take the metro direction to “Fânzeres”, and then, you must get out at Nassoni metro station,and then get out from the metro and someone from the organization will be waiting for you in the metro station.

The accommodation will be the “Casa Juvenil São João Bosco”, at the address: Quinta do Carvalho Rua Dr. Corino de Andrade, 54 4570-055 Porto. The participants will sleep in tents, every volunteer needs to bring tent and sleeping bag.

The participants should be at “Casa Juvenil” at 21:00 pm (maximum) for dinner. On disposal:+ breakfast, lunch and dinner; + Bed and pillow ; + water, + Breakfast it will be at ”Casa Juvenil D. João Bosco”, + Lunch it will be at “Lar Nossa Senhora do Livramento” – Rua de Santos Pousada 182, Porto; + Dinner will be cooked by the volunteers in teams, one team every day;

Your diet restrictions will be taken in consideration if you give a notice of that to the organizational team up until 29th of June to ptmedsci@gmail.com with the subject of the email: diet restriction. Since all the meals will be happening at “Lar Nossa Senhora do Livramento”, we cannot guarantee any changes made at the last minute, as we need to communicate to the institution with some time beforehand.

What to Bring

Conditions of participation (internal rules of the camp)
- Be available for the entire workcamp and don’t leave in the middle of the project, be punctual, open-minded and responsible.
