Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:

Aubigne-Racan is a lovely city near the river Loire and it spreads over 3203 hectares with a total of 2112 inhabitants. A particularly important part of Aubigne heritage is the Gallo-Roman complex composed of a theatre, a temple, thermal facilities and markets built in the second half of the 1st century. This archaeological site, owned by the Sarthe department, is one of the most beautiful sites of the Pays de la Loire region. This area is very rich in architectural heritage and natural discoveries.
We are working on this project with the Sarthe Departmental Council's agriculture and environment office, which is responsible for managing the biodiversity of the archaeological site. The Aubigne-Racan site is a sensitive natural area. The creation of the podcasts will be accompanied and hosted by Radio Prevert, a local radio association that is very involved in the area.


Description of work:

Create a radio podcast and discover a 2000 years old archaeological site, near the beautiful Loire Region and its nature!

The workcamp will focus on the creation of an audio trail allowing walkers and visitors to discover the various natural and environmental attractions of the archaeological site of Cherre. The archaeological site of Cherre is particularly renowned for its built heritage as it is classified as an Historic Monument. It is also a natural site that has been classified since 1975, and is much less known for its environmental value and biodiversity.
Under the supervision of a team from Concordia, the Departmental Council and a journalist from Radio Prevert (local radio station), you will be in charge of creating audio podcasts to allow walkers and visitors to discover the archaeological site in an original way: recording sounds of nature, collecting testimonies from people who know the site well (farmer, naturalist, hiker, etc.), creating a story, etc. Various possibilities for creating an audio trail will be proposed. These audio podcasts will then be made available for download by QR code on the department's website. French/English version possible.
In addition to this project, you will also be asked to testify about your journey and to promote the workcamp project through radio broadcasts with Radio Prevert.
You will also take part in the setting up of activities and actions to create links with the inhabitants of the commune: holding a stand at the market on Saturday mornings, organising an international meal, proposing service exchanges, etc.

We have been organising workcamps on the Cherre archaeological site since 2013, in partnership with the Sarthe Departmental Council (owner of the site) and the municipality of Aubigne-Racan. Each year, a workcamp is organised in July to restore the site (masonry work). In 2022, the agriculture and environment office of the departmental council is writing a management plan for the site, and is working in partnership with various local partners to preserve and enhance this sensitive natural area.

Description of location and leisure:

Aubigne-Racan is located 40km south from Le Mans, 15 km west from the Chateau du Loir. You will have the opportunity to meet local people and exchange services. You will take part in the local festivities in July such as the July 14th parade and fireworks, see the light show in the old city called “Nuit des Chimeres”, discover the local heritage and may even go hiking.

Meeting Point and Time: The meeting point is set on the 6th of July at the end of the afternoon at AUBIGNE-RACAN train station. The exact meeting time will be given with the infosheet which will be sent at the latest 4 weeks before the start of the workcamp. From PARIS, several trains leave from Montparnasse train station to AUBIGNE-RACAN, with a change at LE MANS train station. The journey takes about 1 hour and a half. If you are coming first by plane, remember that you will need some time to commute from the airport to the train station, therefore we recommend that you arrive early enough for you not to rush and have a stress free travel.

You will stay in tents (2 to 3 volunteers per tent) in a field with access to toilets and bathrooms in a local football club building. Meals will be taken there as well. The group will share the cleaning tasks and prepare meals together. The budget will be allocated to the group leader and you will participate in the preparation of meals with good products from the market and local producers.

Short remarks for the project:
You will be cycling on a daily basis to go from the city to the workcamp (4km). Please bring gardening gloves, good shoes for work and working clothes. As nights can be quite cold, also remember to bring warm clothes. Do not forget to bring a sleeping-mat, a sleeping bag for cold weather (and a tent if you have your own!).

Description of specific requirements: Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues happen on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and will then be reimbursed once back in their home country.

Project:
Every two years, the Youth Department of the City of Le Mans organises a Youth Forum, highlighting the Youth actions organised by the city and by partner associations.
Concordia has been working with the City on youth engagement and international mobility for nearly 10 years. We are regularly invited by the Youth Department to participate in the Youth Forum: organisation of workshops, presentation of our actions, and support for youth projects.
This year, the Youth Department wanted to strengthen the partnership with Concordia by organizing a volunteer project around the Youth Forum involving internationals and locals. Their aim is to be able to gather the opinions of young people living in the City on their lives in Le Mans as young people and citizens.
The project will therefore be a way to gather the voices of the young people of Le Mans and present the work carried out to elected officials and residents during the Youth Forum. Besides the realization of this project, hosting a workcamp contributes to the city’s ambition for exchanges and encounters of cultures. This workcamp will allow young locals to be sensitized to intercultural encounters and dedication with an international dimension. Particular attention will be paid to meetings with local stakeholders and residents.

Work:
During the first days you will participate in workshops to learn more about video tools and participatory methods (putting up signs, street surveys......). You will be accompanied by your camp leaders; these practical workshops will then allow you to meet young people in different areas of the City: city centre, working-class districts, and to gather their opinions on their life in Le Mans as a young person and citizen. Then, you will make the video montage for a presentation to elected officials and residents and create wooden panels to present the testimonies. The two tools, video and wooden panels, will be presented at the Youth Forum on September 20 and 21.

Le Mans (143.000 inhabitants) is located in the West of France. It is the administrative centre of the Sarthe County, in the Pays de La Loire region (50 min from Paris, and 1h30 from Nantes by train). You will have time to discover the city. Le Mans is a beautiful artistic and historical city, it is the third one of the Pays de la Loire region when it comes to culture and tourism. The old city centre is surrounded by Roman walls and the most recent renovation works organised to preserve the oldest parts of Le Mans have helped to enhance its local heritage. Two rivers cross the city which has been named one of France greenest cities. You can find various parks and gardens, in addition to the two big forests bordering the city. You will be sharing a basic collective accommodation in 2 flats in the neighbourhood. There will be rooms of 4 or 5 people with mattresses provided by Concordia. The group will be sharing the cleaning chores and preparing meals together. The budget will be allocated to the group leader and you will participate in the preparation of dishes with good products from the market and local producers. Bring your sleeping-bag with you.

The project is being carried out in an urban environment; in working-class neighbourhoods as well as Downtown. You should be interested in video, participatory animation and be ready to meet and interact with other young people.

We ask you to write a motivation letter to validate your inscription on the workcamp.
Bring raining clothes and clothes for outdoor activities, and sport shoes.
Do not hesitate to bring activities from home such as photos, games, musical instruments, etc.
