Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:
Nestling in a lush green valley, the commune of St Amand de Coly lies at the heart of the Périgord Noir, an area rich in history! Made up of two former communes that decided to merge into one, we’ll be working to unite these formerly separate areas into a single one. The ruins of the abbey castle at Coly bear witness to the valley's rich past, preserving some fine architectural features (bread oven, vaulted room, etc.) and revealing some wonderful secrets. The abbey of St Amand is proof of the power of the church in this area throughout the Middle Ages.
After a number of excavations at the castle, this year we have reached the layers of archaeological interest. Festivals, night markets, and village fairs will punctuate the summer.
You’ll discover the welcoming nature of the local people and the charm of the countryside and heritage, as you organise your programme of activities with the other volunteers, the other groups hosted, and the organisers.
Description of work:
You'll be taking part in the enhancement of local heritage around the castle and its recipe room. Working with a history enthusiast and an archaeologist, you'll be clearing the ground, clearing undergrowth, and consolidating, and then carrying out careful excavation work on these areas, which bear witness to previous centuries. The summer will be punctuated by local events where you will be invited to take part in festivities such as the ‘Saint-Amand fait son intéressant’ performing arts festival, night markets, village festivals, etc. You'll be in close contact with local volunteers to help organise these events.
Description of location and leisure:
During your stay, you will have the opportunity to participate in local festivities and cultural events, to discover the region, and to organise your programme of activities with the other volunteers and the animators.

Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:
Not far from Poitiers, between sky and earth, in this commune called Buxerolles, an ancient church first mentioned in 1226, the Saint-Jacques-et-Saint-Philippe de Buxerolles church dates back to the Romanesque period. A first chapel, completely destroyed when the building was rebuilt in 1868, dates back to the 11th century. After several years, the building is in need of a facelift, and the project will involve restoring the church as well as intercultural sharing between locals and peace-building volunteers.
Description of work:
After two years spent restoring the interior walls of the church, the aim of this project is to continue renovating the walls of the Saint-Jacques-et-Saint-Philippe church in Buxerolles. The church dates back to the 11th century, but the walls have been plastered with cement, which has led to poor moisture drainage and created saltpetre. Accompanied by a specialist technical supervisor, you will first have to remove the plaster from the walls, then dehumidify the walls and finish by plastering them with lime. Other traditional masonry work will give you a chance to familiarise yourself with these techniques. Come with work clothes or clothes that may be damaged or soiled. We will provide you with safety equipment. No qualifications are required for this project. You will work 4 to 5 hours a day.
Description of location and leisure:
Buxerolles (86180) is located in the Greater Poitiers conurbation, in the Vienne département (86), 6 km from Poitiers.
At the crossroads of several charming little villages in the Vienne, you'll be able to take full advantage of the local heritage. When you're not working on the site, you'll be taking part in summer activities such as 14 July. Outings to Poitiers or Châtellerault and activities such as the Futuroscope, bowling, or cinema can also be organised.
[Travel Information]
The nearest airport: ORY in Paris,France
The nearest terminal (train-, bus-, taxi station): Poitiers (86000)
